Oven door question

Hi everybody,

I am looking into buying a Chambers that I believe to be a model 61C. The oven door seems to be a bit heavy to open. Is there a counterweight or spring that needs replacing?

My door is quite heavy too. They don't make them like that any more (that's what i figured anyway).

Welcome and congratulations! Life is good when you have a real good stove. I have a 61AC - it is a copper model - 1953, the only year chambers did copper.

I am not hooked up yet but it is in the kitchen and I get to set cooking stuff on it and I feel it's presence.

Get a manual and a cookbook if you haven't yet - all kinds of essential information there and on this site.

If you're handy with ordinary tools (screwdriver and maybe a wrench), and buy the Service Manual for instructions on how to get to the door assembly, you could fix that door without too much problem. If the price is right and it's in good overall condition, then I wouldn't let that deter you from a nice stove.

I owned a Chambers once about 15+or- years ago, before there was an internet. Once it stopped working, I couldn't get parts for it, nor was there a board like this with advice on how to fix it, so I actually threw it away! Unfortunately, I don't remember too much about it. That must have happened a lot back then.
